Saint-Petersburg Ballerinas

While in Saint-Petersburg, Russia I connected with The Royal School of Russian Ballet. The school is located in Pushkin, a town within Saint-Petersburg, miles away from the city center. Pushkin is of course named after the famous russian poet Alexander Pushkin, who lived in the city. The school participates in festivals, performances and competitions around the world. Some of the students started there as young as 3 years old.

After watching and taking some photos during one of their classes (which can be seen here), I decided on creating a photo project with a few of the ballerinas by taking them out of the studios and stages and putting them outside within their city.

Pushkin has an old world, almost fairy tale feel. A mix of historic buildings, palaces, castles, and green parks. I wanted to immerse these ballerinas within the feel of their city.
